Cam Question   Posted Mon Jan 12, 04   9:42 AM

I just pulled the cam out of a 454 that I purchased from a guy that said he put an RV cam in it. He doesn't remember what it was, but the cam has 268h stamped on the end with CC stamped above it. My question is this, is this a Comp Cams 268h cam (218 @ 50 - 485 lift) or is it a Crane cams cam?

Yes, that is a Comp Cams brand, it is the next one above mine which is a 260h and it is their High Energy series. If I did it over I would go with their Dual Energy series 275 cam that would be 219 intake and 229 exhaust @ .050 and .507 intake and .531 exhaust lift. The dual pattern helps scavenge the exhaust better, especially with stock manifolds. Or go with the Magnum series 280H which is 230 @ .050 and .520 lift.

What do you think about the Extreme energy 268H cam from Comp cams? Accoring to my desktop dyno 2000 the XE268h will outperform the XE274 cam for torque and horsepower until about 4500-5000RPM. (I don't plan on spinning the block over 5500 - 6000 so this seems better) Do you know of anyone using either of these cams on a big block?

i run the comp extreme energy profile on my small block and it's monstrous. a great cam with all around power. i run higher than stock rocker ratio which makes it like that, but i'm sure with stock ratio, it'd be nearly as good.

it pulls very linear but you can tell it's getting a little exponential at the end. it revs like a honda, but i think that has more to do with the bottom end balancing and intake/head flow.
