manual valve body question   Posted Sun Jul 20, 03   7:57 PM

like how exactly do you go about downshifting. do you have to downshift it yourself or do you have to let the transmission do the downshifting. please explain

I will. Replacing an automatic valve body with a manual will not downshift for you. You will have to do that yourself. Once you pick a gear it acts pretty much just like a manual and you will have to downshift for yourself. Why did you ask this question though?

well then how do you work the shifter to make it upshift. ive never seen one those shifters for an auto in use or up close. like are all the gears marked out or does it just have a plus and minus

its considered a slap stick. it looks just like a regular shifter, 1........2...........3...........D. but if its in 2nd, it stays in 1st, it stays in 1st and if its in 2nd, it stays in 2nd etc.

thats an interesting statement...

hehe... a lot of drag cars use slapstick shifters like that.... TH350 or TH400 with a Hurst Quickshift Kit.... fun stuff... hehe...

oh ok so if i put one in my cougars AOD it wouldnt go into OD unless i put it there and i have to go through the gears like i can now execpt intead of going and putting it in 1st and to shift to 2nd i have to go up to drive and back down to first real quick i just give it a tug back for each gear and a push up to go from say 3rd to 2nd
