Yes, port the block, VW air cooled guys have done it for years. A bug case becomes 3 sealed chambers when assembled and the "idea" is to let the air (blow by pressure) )flow from from one area to another. Most other engines wouldn't be affected by this, but it is a interesting concept.

A bug engine isn't like regular "block, but is square in shape and is split down the middle. The split runs the length of the case (block) and what would normally be main journals are actually supports that run from the top of the case to the bottom, two of them, which creates three chambers for the air to get trapped in. The supports are what holds the crank and cam in place since there arent any caps like on a covenentional (real) motor. You would have to see one to fully understand.

Apposed engines are cool. Do the bugs have the same engine layout as the boxer engines from the Porsches and Scubaroos ???

Yes, any "flat" motor is a boxer. Alot of the early 356 Porsches had dual Solex carbs similiar to webers used on bugs and dual port heads. The Porsche engine would even fit into a bug. The Scubaroo looks almost exactly like a bug engine with the tin removed but there arent any fins on the cyliders since they are water cooled.

Ahhhh, I get ya. Yeah, the 356's were badass. Although I could go for the old Carrera RS 2.7
