UH OH! Might need some help!   Posted Thu Sep 19, 02   3:21 PM

Ok , i need to know what you smart gearheads think this might be...

My friend just called me up, and told me his falcon isnt starting. It hasnt had any problems like that before..... ever.... he says he doesnt think the battery is low at all, cause its turning over fine and the radio is fine. He checked as much as he could under the hood and he says everything is in order, it just wont fire up. Any ideas of the problem.????

Its very important that the falcon is fine for this weekend ( ROUTE-66, the most important time of the year for us!)

Thanks alot!!!

...Route-66 is the best holiday weekend of the year...

sounds ignition related, could be timing could be that someone fucked with his plug wires and changed the firing order, or fuel pump if electric,

i was thinking about it might being ignition... a few days ago him and his dad replaced the heater hoses, cause one bursted in the interior. they had to replace that real quick and had the interior professionally cleaned in a panick for route-66.. but it was starting every day up to now...

Its a mechanical fuel pump

unless it got real hot i wouldn't see that as being related to his current problem

it did get pretty warm when the heater hose cracked.... they lost all the antifreeze and stuff in the interior, it hit about 230 and he shut it off imediately. but he told me hes been starting it and drivin it alittle every day since, and its been fine......

230 won't hurt it, the chevelle runs 220 in this hot ass desert when it's 120+ outside and its been around 230 a few times so i wouldn't worry about it. now back to the ignition. what kind of ignition is he runing?

How new is it. id replace the cap, rotor, condensor, and coil if he doesent find any other problems like crossed wires, what kind of fuel pump does he have.

Sounds like what I'm goin through with my truck right now...If it'll crank, and just not fire, check the fuel lines...make sure they aren't busted, or clogged. It's like 1000hpchevy said...either ignition, or fuel pump. Could be the fuel filter too...

the parts are probably about 8 or 9 years old. His parents bought the car about that long ago, and the previous owner did everything to it. We have just had to take it to shops for some faulty parts and what not... But its never had any real serious major problems before.

He had it towed a few minutes ago to a garage that has done real well with fixing the falcon, hopefully they will solve it soon. I will let my friend know all the things you guys told me and i will be sure to tell u what the problem really is!

And i have no clue what kinda fuel pump it has, probably stock. Same with the fuel filter too most likely.

The chevelle's coming along ok, the owner's pretty happy with it except for the fact that we have to tear the heads off of it and replace the springs cause the valves are already floating. It only has 120lbs at seat right now. The morons who did the heads fucked up and put the wrong springs in. I checked them and they were 140 when it was new and the cam card called for that but it wasn't right. Well a few zings around 7000 rpm toatsed that set so now the heads are gonna get some real springs.
